Of the three major hotels that dominate Porto Cervo summer, Hotel Pitrizza is the more intimate secluded of them all on a hillside of tumbled granite with grassy-roof architecture and hush-hush lobby privy to romantic rendezvous' and honeymooners. Think Flintstones architecture with the heart of an Italian dream palace, a cobbled-stone faced and terracotta tiling is surrounded in a sea of ornate wood furnishings in a rustic lobby of textured plaster walls and heavy drapery that frames a horizon of blue Mediterranean. The hotel is home to a grown-up piano bar that offers day-and-night scene of lounge lovers that linger till the wee hours of morning both before and after dinning in the casual but decidedly upscale Pitrizza Restaurant with its seafood-minded Mediterranean menu. Days are spent shopping at the hotel's in-house Van Cleef & Arpel or Stefano Ricci when not at the beach club with its small private beach or at the granite-encrusted pool surrounded in loungers clad in red and white.
The Room
Entry-level rooms are on average 50-100 sq. ft. larger than their Romazzino and Cala competition. Conducive to honeymoon getaways that never leave the room, white-washed walls and tile floors frame a cheery palette of mostly light and bright decorating with chairs and sofa that are actually comfortable enough to sit on and linger. Venetian-revival lamps and quirky tables bring a decidedly Italian note, even if geographically confusing to this natively separate Sardinia culture. A substantial selection of Suite-level accommodations include Villa il Pitsosforo with its 2-story layout located adjacent to the main beach club and pool deck with upstairs terrace overlooking Liscia di Vacca Bay with its occasional bottle-nosed dolphins sightings. Bathrooms are lined in mosaic tiles with marble in select upgraded room with high-end Italian toiletries and fluffy linens that only get used for one season per year.
